Our Founder

A life given to sight.

Dr. Syed Muhammad Asif changed how Pakistan treats cataract, and for over 35 years he has made sure that care reaches people who cannot pay for it.

Born in Karachi, he graduated from Sindh Medical College in 1982 and specialised in ophthalmology in Austria, earning his M.A.M.S. in Vienna and a D.O.M.S. He is also a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (USA).

During twelve years as a cataract surgeon at Taj Eye Hospital, he became the first surgeon to bring phacoemulsification (keyhole cataract surgery) to Pakistan, and pioneered foldable intraocular lenses. In 1997 he founded Asif Eye Hospital.

When are the clinics open?

DHA Phase II: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM (closed Friday and Sunday). Bahadurabad: OPD on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM (closed Saturday and Sunday). Please call ahead to book.

What should I bring?

Your current glasses or contact lenses, any previous eye reports or prescriptions, and a list of the medicines you take. Panel patients should also bring a valid insurance card and CNIC.

Is my company or insurer on your panel?

We are on the panel of 24 organisations, from Adamjee, Allianz EFU, EFU, Jubilee and TPL to the State Bank of Pakistan, National Bank, UBL and ZTBL. See the full list above. If your provider is not listed, please call and we will check for you.

Do you see children?

Yes. Our paediatric ophthalmology service offers gentle vision screening and specialised care for children.
